I really gotta say something about that X Factor thing.
First of all, a kind friend of mine who’s one of my University mates shot some video with her smartphone and sent it to me via Whatsapp.
In the end I could see everything, ” A Ton Of Love” plus the very little interview with Tom.
The only thing I am sad for is that I could not share the video with you because I don’t know how to do it (first) and then that’s really nothing special as the exhibition was really an ordinary one, the interview really short (they only talk about the Bologna gig in February, not even mentioning the past one in Milano) and as my friend, who didn’t knew Editors before she knew me at Uni two months ago, but of course you know how it ends with me, sang after the whole song and commented on the boys just to make me laugh.
I could hear also her mum asking her why she was singing so loud, plus I can also see her sofa sometimes ( I laughed after the whole exhibition for these little things). So I really hope that someone has taken the video in a more serious way so I can share it with you.
For now I just have some good quality pics I’ll share later.
BY THE WAY let’s now talk seriously: yesterday evening I followed the debate in the official page of the programme (I just read, I didn’t comment as I would REALLY have turned mad and rude) concering Editors exhibition and I was really disappointed by some comments I saw on that page.
There were some fans liking the whole thing, some didn’t (because of the place) and that’s ok, no problem.
There were also some people who didn’t see Editors before, some liked them, some didn’t, but that’s ok if you only say “well they are not so good”. Everyone has its taste: “de gustibus non disputandum est”.
BUT what really made me DISGUSTED is something I am going to explain now.
Some people that saw Editors for the first time only judged Tom in a silly, evil, superficial way I didn’t see before.
They said that Tom is only a drunk man, they called him “extra - facto” or ” fatto” (in English: really drunk person), they criticised his moves, they said that he doesn’t sing, but he screams. (Whaaat??)
About the very short interview they said that he is a rude man because he always looked at the ground.
What’s wrong with you people??
Why being so superficial???
Tom is super powerful on the stage, as ALL the band members are, but he is shy and very calm in other cases.
And come on, how can you say that he is rude?
He is really polite, and if he doesn’t look you in the eyes, expecially if in THAT place in front of so many people, mostly not Editors fans, isn’t it because he is shy?
Artists are human beings as all we are, first of all, why don’t you consider it?
Why judging in such a superficial way?
I considered this X Factor thing as a opportunity for Editors to be seen by a great quantity of people, I tried to look at the good side of the thing.
But, in the end, it wasn’t a great thing.
I am really, really, really disappointed.

: a very personal report from a non professional photographer (as you will see, many pics are quite bad) and a non professional journalist (not yet!)
Me and my dad had about 3 hours by car (we live in the countryside in a place near Vicenza) and we had never been to Milan before, and to us the traffic was really shocking lol. What was quite funny came also before the gig. We were in a traffic queue and we passed in front of Alcatraz when I suddently saw a tall guy quite in the middle of the road, near a red bus…coming nearer I found that it was Russell and near to him there was Tom!!! Lol! So my dad used the clacson and I greeted them from the car…I am quite sure they saw me, despite the fact that maybe they didn’t understood immediately why we used the clacson. It was just to greet them! Then I standed in the queue and met some lovely friends that I knew previously thanks to the net, and then we went inside. I manage to go quite near the stage, not really the first row, but in a good place in the center, about 3rd/4rd row…And I was lucky enough to have people shorter than me in the previous row so I could see quite well :) Balthazar started playing about at 20.30 pm and they were good, quite strange. I feel like that if I were not eterosexual I might have fallen in love with the girl in the band, but that’s not my case…(I am joking) with a strange and psycadelic atmosphere balthazar left the stage after a short but intense show. About 21.30 pm, lights turn off, “The Weight” intro starts and the crowd already turn quite drunk of madness. I feel strange because I had only seen that scene in streamings, and althought it was quite emotional too, I never had a similar feeling. What I had dreamt about for years was just about to happen. Shadows enter the stage and Sugar started playing. The gig was very special, not just because that was my first time as an Editors full show ( I only had seen them in 2010 at Heineken Jammin’ Festival as one of the many bands on stage, and the other show I had to attend, A perfect day festival 2013 was cancelled) but also people that saw them other times told me that it was a very special gig. The crowd was quite mad (me included) we sang and danced along nearly all the songs. The setlist was very complete: they played a lot from all their works, all songs mixed up in a genial way. They were all divine, very precise, and it seems they all had a great time. Elliott was moving and jumping all the time, that’s a pity I couldn’t see him very vividly as he was quite in the back apart from “the racing rats” when he came in the front, enjoying the time and the song. Ed played a very strong beat, I can’t really understand how he manages to be so powerful. Awesome. Russell was, as always, the one having fun by making the public enjoy the gig by telling us to raise our hands and always showing that we were doing right. He jumped all over the stage and I think he was really enjoying the whole thing. Justin is really a caricature, in the good sense of it. The facial espression he did when he appreciated the fact that people enjoyed his riffs (my God, “You Don’t Know Love” and “Like Treasure ” were divine!) and the espression when Tom came and sing near to him really made me laugh. Justin is very funny in that sense. Some of his facial expressions are just epic. I’d like to spend a special note about Tom, who really gave all his soul, all his voice and also his body to the show. He was mad and as a consequence he made all the public mad. He sang with passion, he was into the songs, his postures, his gestures were perfect. He jumped on the piano two times and went down with a divine grace. He greated the public with phrases like “grazie mille!” “Grazie Milanoooo!” Many many many times and sometimes also with he right pronunciation (lol) and he did a thing I never seen from him( from other singers yes, but I never seen a similar thing from him): he went in the middle of the public in the first rows, not just one time, but more, maybe 3/4 times, in all the directions: in the middle (and he was quite near to me, lucky me!), right and left. It was totally insane. AW. A special note also to the moment that made me cry, “the phone book” performance. It was a strong and intense performance, as it always is with this song, but live it was really more special because all the people sang along Tom and in the end we were all moved inside, I cried a bit and Tom might have felt the same as us: the performance was so intense that he felt moved too, I could feel it. That was a moment I could never forget. The crowd got mad expecially with the Classic successes but also the new successes: I personally had a lot of fun with “Formaldehyde” and dancing and singing the Elliott part. what a lovely performance. Editors had a minute pause and then played “bricks and mortar”, “Nothing “(full band) and “papillon”(long version). With a 3 hours trip home, a very low voice, pains everywhere and my flu still going on I now can say that it was a very unforgettable gig, I hope not to wait so many years now to see them again cause I need similar feelings very often in my life, and I hope some day to tell my sons about this experience and to bringthem the same passion for a band, cause it really gives you one more reasons to enjoy life. As I immediately felt after the concert, I can say that now I am really “Two Hearted Spider” as I call my self in some blogs, I am really like in Aristofane’s metaphor in “Symposium”… Now I feel complete. THANK YOU EDITORS.
I know it sounds a bit unfair, ‘cause if he wanted to keep it in his profile he would have done it, but there are so many people that could not hear the song in THAT hour he kept the song on the internet. So enjoy and share the love for this WONDERFUL artist, no matter if you didn’t know him also before E D I T O R S . His voice sounded awesome in Airship, it sounds awesome as backing vocals in Editors, and is still awesome in this demo.
Thanks for the lovely boys and girls in the blog “Elliott Williams appreciation blog” on Facebook that help me found this mp3, plus many thanks to ALL the people “fan” of this blog cause YOU ARE ALWAYS AWESOME. It’s a pleasure for me to be the admin of this blog. Share the love.
